Energy Bill

We all know the things we enjoy the most during an Oklahoma summer. Visiting the lakes, swimming in the pools, snow cone stands… But if you were to ask most any Oklahoman what they like the LEAST about the summer you would most likely HIGH ENERGY BILLS! We want to pass of some information and tips for saving this summer.
Here are some ways you can save money this summer:
1. Thermostats are meant to measure the temperature of an area and maintain a set, comfortable temperature by adjusting your home’s heating and cooling system. Moving lamps or any heat source from the area will prevent your thermostat from misreading the area’s real temperature. This will save you on the energy that would have been used to compensate that misread temperature.

2. Setting your indoor temperature to 78˚F could save you 3-5% off your energy bill.

3. Set your indoor fans to rotate counter-clockwise. This will create a wonderful cooling effect. Ceiling fans are a great source to cool a room combined with an air conditioner set on low.

4. Go all nat-ur-al! Use the light from these sunny days to light your home instead of using interior lights.

5. Who new! Your energy bill is also made in the kitchen! Set you refrigerator at 36˚F – 42˚F and your freezer at -5˚F – +6˚F to avoid wasting energy in the kitchen.

6. Close off those rooms that aren’t in use throughout the day. Shut the shades/blinds in your home. This will reduce sunlight warming your cooled home.

7. Run a dehumidifier! Removing moisture from the air will leave you feeling more comfortable and will allow you Air Conditioner to not work as hard.

8. Make sure you are running an energy efficient air conditioner. SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings of 10.0 or higher for split air conditioners, and 9.7 for package ones are recognized as energy efficient. Units 10 years or older are likely to have an efficiency rating of 7.5 SEER or less, and so should be replaced.

9. Pool owners give that pump a break. This will save you in your energy cost. Running your pump 4-6 hours is more than enough!

10. Double check your water heater is set at 120˚F this will save you on heating your home’s water.
